Filming day 1

Live performance recording - Liam Gallagher - Wonderwall

The YouTube clip we took could be used in our final music video. It can be used as our Audio and visuals during the editing stages of the project. I think it is extremely important that we should use this as it is rare occasion that Oasis songs get performed live due to the band splitting up in 2009. As a group, we recorded the song Wonderwall for our music video. Therefore, we'll have a better idea of what to include during the live performance shots. We think it would be a good idea to use clips of it to show the popularity of the song and its effect on society. On the other hand, the negative of this footage is the singing from the crowd. This won't be the best compared to a professional who's audio we are using to replicate and lip sync the song. Therefore, it would sound unprofessional.

Storyboard

This storyboard is a brief overview of what camera shots, camera angles and lighting we're going to include in our music video. With the choices we've made about what shots to include, camera angles and lighting, it'll help our music video look like a realistic Britpop music video.

It is important that we gather live performance footage of Liam Gallagher. This is because we're going to include a live performance scene in our music video. Therefore, by gathering footage we'll be able to replicate key conventions throughout our music video. For example, wearing similar clothes to Liam Gallagher which are linked to the genre.

Practice Shot types

1. Over the shoulder shot- This shot could be used in our music video, to show to the audience the characters vision of what he or she can see.

2. Establishing shot - This shot could be used in our music video because it shows the scenery of the location. Therefore, audiences will be able to identify if the band come from a lower class background.

3. Medium Close up - This shot can be used to show emotion and the common trends of the character.  For example, parka coats, polo shirts etc...

4.  Close upthe use of a close up shot can reveal the characters emotions and facial expressions clearly and in detail, very effective.

5. Extreme Close up -  this shows the way we see the character and we can see all the facial features.

6. Low angled shot -  can make a subject appear to be intimidating or of power.

Narrative Choice

As a group, we've decided to include two narrative theories in our music video. We've used Binary Opposition, which is suggested by Levi-Strauss. The binary opposition will be the working class, Rural against the upper class and urban. It is important that we include this because the Britpop genre is associated with the working class and Urban areas. For example, Oasis come from a working class background. Therefore, by including this in our music video, it'll look realistic and professional. Also we've decided to add rural areas to contrast urban areas, as well as creating binary opposition. For example, showing the urban areas being plain and artificial. But compared to the rural areas being natural showing the social class difference. This is used in our music video, to show to the audience how there's class inequality. Therefore, this will help our video look professional and linked to the conventions of the Britpop genre.

Furthermore, the second narrative theory we've decided to include in our music video is Barthes enigma codes. This will be shown through the use of the woman (Lucy) in our music video, by not establishing her identity throughout the music video. Also, they'll be a variety of camera shots of her body features but no shots establishing her identity. Therefore, the audience won't know who Luke is singing about. The reason for this is because the lyrics applied in the music video, are about the songwriter 'Noel Gallagher' loving an unknown woman. But the woman hasn't established his feelings towards herself. We decided that this should be included in are narrative, as we can link the lyric meanings into the story line. This would help influence the action part of the music video, as we tease the audience with a variety of camera shots and angels her body features.

This is an extremely important post as this is needed to help construct a realistic and professional Britpop music video. We've decided to choose two narratives, as we believe that there needed to show our knowledge of the variety of key Britpop conventions throughout the music video. As well as choosing the right shots types and camera angles, in order to suit the narrative.

Camera Quality

Image result for arri alexaAs Jack, Luke and I are amateur film makers, we're not able to access the high quality cameras used for professional film making. For example, an Arri Alexa camera is used in many successful films to get the best quality shots, in films such as; Avengers Assemble. I believe that the camera uses shots that Luke, Jack and I would wish to include in our music video. For example, long shots, establishing shots, angles shots, close ups and medium shots.

Related imageThe Arri Alexa is capable of recording at 2K, 4K,4K UHD and 4K Cine deliverable. This suggests that the Arri Alexa camera is able to capture a variety of extremely high quality footage, which will benefit the overall experience for the audience. For our music video it is extremely important that we gather high quality footage. If our camera quality is poor, this will have a negative affect on our music video because the audience may be confused about the meaning of the music video. Therefore, this creates uncertainty. As a group, we've decided to include slow motion shots throughout our music video to emphasis the facial features on the unknown woman. The Arri Alexa camera is able to record at 120 frames per second.
