Practice images/Photoshoot - Digipak planning

These are some images from Altrincham that we took during our filming session. We are currently undecided as to which image we will use as the front cover of the digipak. Our aim is it use a high quality image that shows the importance of Luke McKendry in the band and show his band members in the background of the image. We've decided to use this idea because many Britpop digipacks use these types of images, to establish the importance of each character.

Draft Layout of Digipak - Digipak planning

This is a image of the template for the digipak that my group will create. Also, I've labelled each section of the digipak, with what image I'm going to include (front cover/back cover e.g). As a result of this, it will help me during the later stages of putting our images that we've edited and created on the template. Therefore, I'll be able to put them on and fill in the spines of the digipak.

Magazine Poster Research - Digipak Research

By proceeding this research, I am able to identify what features to include on my magazine poster, in order to make it look realistic. For example, making the band logo large. Therefore, it'll be visible for the audience to see when they first look at the poster.

Editing session 6

During our last session, we worked on the feedback we received from session 5. By looking at our feedback, it helps guide us in the direction of making our music video look high quality to the audience as well as meeting our own targets. Therefore, our main focus for the session was to include more shots focused on the narrative side, which means we'll be able to meet the requirements of a stereotypical music video.

Furthermore, after filling in spaces from sessions 5 heavy lip syncing synchronising, we added as many shots of Luke, the mysterious woman, Jack Rundle and I as we could, which was asked by our audience. The tools we used were blade. We used this because we wanted to include as many shots as we could and splitting the shots up and using different parts of the same shot at different points helped us achieve this.
We thought this would be suitable for our music video because many successful Britpop music videos use this idea to help suggest the narrative to the audience.

In addition, at the end of the music video, we decided to use transition tools to include fades on each one of the characters. This was done to match the audio of wonderwall and and more dramatic effect which is linked to Goodwin's theory. This is because enigma is created as the mysterious woman's eyes  (Lucy) are seen looking at the audience to kind of say that she can see and identify you but your unable to identify. Therefore, this adds to the enigma and dramatic effect as the semantic and symbolic codes are used from Barthes' codes. This is because people would become concerned as they'll be unable to work out who the mysterious woman is. As a result of this, it makes the audience engage with the text and question meaning encoding and decoding (Halls' theory).

Font research - Digipak

Image result for Oasis logo

This logo image is iconic as its simple and bold. By the logo being in black and white, it suggests that Oasis are trying to show when they were originated. Oasis use an italic font and uses lower class letters. This suggests that the band is trying to challenge the social norms as nouns normally start with a capital letter. This shows, that Oasis are trying to suggest the audience that their Britpop band is different to any other band.

The logo is slanted and disjointed, which represents them as they're different to any other band. and are unorthodox which is shown in the logo. Also by using all capital letters, it suggests that the band sees themselves as a popular band.
Related image

This logo image is also iconic. This is because 'Pulp' use a font that hasn't been used by any other band. Therefore, this suggests that their trying to say to the audience 'Pulp' are different to any other band in the world. Also by using all capital letters, it suggests that the band sees themselves as a popular band.

From looking at this post, It appears that it is extremely important to use a non popular font, that no other Britpop band has used before. Therefore, this will help suggest to the audience the our band is different to any other.

Editing session 5

During our fifth session, we decided to include more group shots of the band. This is because after our session 4 feedback, our audience identified that we needed to include more group shots, to show which band members were involved in our music video. Also, due to having a time limit because people had to go places, as a group we decided that we should lip sync the parts of Luke Mckendry singing from the chorus to the end of the song. Furthermore, we left gaps towards the end of the music video, in order to include other shots later on of our narrative. This is because I decided to get the hard part of lip syncing out footage out the way. Therefore, in our final editing session we'll be able to tweak little parts and add more shots.

Also, we encountered some problems during our editing session. For example, some of Luke Mckendry's lip syncing didn't match the audio. As a result of Luke Mckendry not lasting his notes for longer. This problem encountered because we didn't play any background music to help Luke lip sync. Meanwhile, we made the most of the clips and we used the cut and blade tool to get the parts of the footage that matched the audio to 'wonderwall'. This ended up a success for us, as it meant there were lots of slots available for future shots of the band, Luke and the mystery woman to make the narrative clear and show importance with it dominating the final part of the music video, when it matters.

Digipak Reserach - Institutional Research

Image result for Oasis digipaks

It is very important to include the name of the record company and is done on all digipaks so we Oasis's record company on all aspects of the digipak.

Adding to this there must be names of the band members and their roles in the band also the producers and the mangers of the bandshould be involved in this.

Furthermore, If the song is mixed by anybody then they too should be mentioned as part of the institutional information on the the digipak. Therefore, we should include the camera men and Lucy Carter who played the mysterious girl on the Digipak.

Also, we should also mention the place in which the song was produced/created.
Therefore, including the locations where we filmed our footage and what dates we filmed on.

By completing this post, it allows us to gain knowledge of what images to include on the digipak. For example, location images, band images. As a result of knowing this, it allows us create a high quality and realistic digipak because It'll look similar to a digipak within the Britpop genre.

Album name

As a group we've decided to call our album 'Wonderwall'. This is because many successful Britpop albums have been named after a song they've released. For instance 'Morning Glory' which was the name of Oasis' new album. We decided that this should influence our decision, as its a key convention and also a great song that would be shown as one of the most important songs. Also, the band name is linked to the album name. This is because there's a hidden message behind our band name linking to the Wonderwall music video narrative.

Band name

As a group, we've decided on a final name of the band. Our decision was influenced by the meaning of the song 'Wonderwall'. This is because the unknown girl doesn't even know that 'Luke' (singer in the video) exists. Therefore, the whole video aims at expressing his hidden romance to the mystery woman from her perspective, as a result of Luke being unable to get with her due to class inequality.

We came up with names such as: The unknown, The Myths, The unnamed. But everyone decided that we should name the band: Under The Radar. We've decided with this band name because it suited the idea of what we were trying to encode and promote within our music video, through our narrative.

Editing Session 4

During this session, Luke Mckendry, Jack Rundle and I was in attendance to help progress our music video. Our aim for this session was to get a lots of shots into the music video during this session. Which included shots of band members, Lucy and Luke lip syncing.

Our aim was to piece together as many shots to complete the chorus of the song as this bit was incomplete. Therefore, we were able to include a variety of shots of the mysterious woman and Luke. This is because in the chorus the lyrics say 'your my wonderwall' which is meant for Luke singing about the mysterious girl.

As a group, we used tools such as the cut tool to gain the correct part to the clip. For example, piecing shots of the Luke and the mysterious woman after each one another to help create a sense of love to the audience. We also used a blade tool to create continuity from shot to shot and the turning down of the sound on the clip which isn't required. For example, when Luke was walking down the steps we used two different shots to help the exaggerate the instruments in the music video. This was one of Goodwin's ideas. Which helped  our music video look professional.
